Human beings are wired for attachment and connection.

Even though we yearn for intimacy, connection, and belonging, we’re also terrified of it. That’s because even though relationships bring out the best in us, they also bring up our deepest pain and wounding from childhood. This pulls us into a dance of both moving towards connection and at other times running away from the very thing we long for. Painful stories and narratives (schemas) that we’ve developed about ourselves and others get triggered for us in our adult relationships and pull us into engaging in protective behaviors (Schema Avoidance Behaviors) that damage our relationships. These avoidance behaviors create self-fulfilling prophecies that end up reinforcing our fears and strengthening negative relationship cycles.

Learn powerful and proven methods to treat interpersonal problems.

We will identify 11 key interpersonal schemas (core beliefs) that trigger Schema Avoidance Behaviors (experiential avoidance) that harm relationships (secondary pain).

We’ll cover the ACT model and adapt it for problematic interpersonal behaviors—including a framework that is easy to learn, role-playing so you can see scenarios in real-time, recorded client video sessions, and exercises that enable you to experience newly learned techniques in real-world, practical ways.

Gain practical skills to overcome common barriers to healthy relationships.
